Travel specialist Ian Currington has
the world at his feet after scooping a prestigious
national award.
The
29 year-old National Account Director with Leamington
based Travel Management Group (TMG), was named
as top student- and winner of the Mike Riddle
Memorial Award- in this year's Guild of Travel
Management Company examinations.
His
success was all the sweeter because he is the
first ever employee of an independent travel
company to take the top prize.
Until
now the Management Certificate in Business Travel
examinations- set in conjunction with the City
& Guilds- have been dominated by the giants
of the sector.
TMG
Managing Director George Dick said: 'We are
delighted. This is the first time that this
award has been won by an employee of an independent
travel company, and it was a terrific acheivement.'
The
accolade reflects well on TMG and the quality
of its employee training and development programme,
Mr Dick believes, and will encourage other employees
as they work through the training programme.
Ian,
who joined the firm nine years ago as a junior
in the Business Travel Division, was unaware
that he had won the award until his name was
called during the presentation evening at London's
Carlton Tower Hotel.
He
received the award from Richard Lovell, Chairman
of the Guild of Travel Management Companies.
'It
was a great suprise,' said Ian. 'I was very
pleased, because just completing the course
is enough of an acheivement. Getting the award
as well was marvellous.'
Coventry-born
Ian attended Coundon Court School before studying
travel and tourism at Henley College. He is
married and lives in Brinklow.
